UK facing skills shortage - are you taking advantage?

The Financial Times reported this morning of a mass skills shortage hitting Britain.  "Even though we are in the depths of the recession, there are areas which are feeling either a general or in some cases quite an acute level of skill shortage," said Alistair Cox, chief executive of Hays, Britain's largest listed recruitment company.  The article went on to reveal that managerial positions are the second most likely area to suffer from skill shortages.

This correlates with our own research into the skills situation in Britian.  Did you know for instance:

  • Just 1 in 5 UK managers are professionally qualified
  • 36% of employers say their own managers are not proficient
  • Organisations who do not invest in staff development are 250% more likely to fail that those who do
  • 82% of managers agree that investing in management training will help their company survive the recession
  • Holding a professional qualification can add £81,000 to your career earnings

How can you take advantage of this situation?

Whilst the situation is clearly detrimental to the chances of Britain remaining competitive in the coming years it does represent a clear opportunity for individuals, and indeed companies, to steal a march on their rivals by investing in their training now.  Lets focus on that last point for a minute.  £81,000 over the course of your career if you undertake management training.  Not only that it makes you more employable, which with unemployment topping 3 million recently is certainly something that few can ignore.

Now, more than ever, is the time to invest wisely in proper training and development because if companies think that developing competence is expensive, they should consider the cost of incompetence.  We have a wide range of training plans that lead to management qualifications at all levels so if you'd like to jump start your career get in touch with us today.
