The average employee spends £3.20 per day on coffee
A blog last year reported that free tea is a major perk offered in the workplace, with employees that don't work for such tea friendly employers forking out £110 a year on caffeinated refreshments.
This isn't enough for some though, at least if a report into the drinking habits of our American cousins is any guide. It found that the average American spends a whopping $1,000 per year on coffee whilst at work, or $5 per day if you prefer. That's around £3.20 per day in old money btw.
The study looked into the expenditure of the typical American employee. In addition to gorging on coffee it found that many buy their lunch every day, setting them back $1924 per year, a figure that dwarfs their annual commuting costs of $1500 a year.
Scary stuff. So much for the recession huh? Does your employer provide you with refreshments at work?

I see lots of people where I work in London walking the streets with their purchased coffee in hand. This either suggests no coffee or "poor" coffee at work! I suspect the latter? Or maybe it is the latest "status symbol"!!
Nice observation Vince. It's amazing how we've all been "educated" by companies such as Starbucks, Cost Coffee etc into appreciating good coffee. And of course we shouldn't ignore the influence of Friends and the antics they used to get up to whilst drinking at "Central Perk".
Personally I'll stick to the Nescafe we get free at work!
Couldn't agree more John.
It might not be as good as Claridges but it's free!
