The book examines why we work the way we do, as well  asking whether or not our heightened levels of activity make us more productive and effective in our jobs, or happier in our lives. The author believes there is a technology paradox where advances in communications technology have caused us to work harder and longer, but less effectively than ever before.

In addition, human psychology yearns for status in a world where the traditional trappings of hierarchy have all but vanished. The book then offers practical solutions as to how we can try to address some of these challenges at both personal and organisational levels and it can help break the vicious circle of unproductive hyperactive work practices. A book we all need to read, even if it is on holiday!
