BRITAINS MOST ADMIRED COMPANIES – CORPORATE REPUTATION

“During your BMAC research over the last 20 years, what would you say has been the consistent key skills of the leaders and managers within BMAC”

“The first thing to say regarding your question is that these executives realise the importance that they have as leaders and when asked they consider it is the quality of management that is one of the most important characteristics.  However over the years we have seen some of the most important characteristics become less important, e.g. financial soundness. This is because other companies are realising that it takes more than just strong financial to be a successful company, there is the ability to get the right people, and on innovating, being more community focused and environmentally responsible.

The other point I would make is that there is a difference between what managers think about their own companies, (self perceptions) with the perceptions of their peers.  Where the gap is very wide then the companies are less well performing companies. This suggests that the peers are a powerful judge of company’s performance”

I am sure you will agree, the comments from Prof. Brown make a compelling argument that one of the key focus areas for the most successful companies in the UK is the quality of management.

As a CMI Ambassador, this is a very encouraging comment from one of the most respected members of the UK business community and demonstrates the importance of having a well trained and capable management team.
