Getting sniffy over whiffy workmates
Sweated labour may be a thing of the past but sweaty workmates are a problem for ten per cent of employees, according to Mira Showers’ annual research into the washing habits of the nation.
Top of the list of places where we Brits would least like to encounter someone who needed a shower is in a restaurant. Perhaps unsurprisingly, encountering a waiter’s sweaty armpit as he/she leans across to put a plate of food before you is something 26 per cent of us would rather avoid.
Dr Mark Fielder, a reader in Medical Microbiology at London’s Kingston University, says; “Washing is an important part of human existence and where possible should be carried out daily at least. The human body has its own natural collection of bacteria that exist on the skin and in our gut, and washing helps us keep some form of control on their numbers and locations.”
Whether or not we get that “barbecue summer” the Met Office promised us last year, here’s hoping the next few months will be no sweat… or as sweat-free as possible.

Isn't it the law now that if a workplace has over so many employees that they have to provide a shower and similar facilities?
The worst one has to be on public transport. Boy have I met some smelly people on there!
