Leadership and the new politics highlighted at CMI National Conference
Politics and the economy are on the agenda for the forthcoming CMI National Conference, being held on Thursday 14 October at the Royal Garden Hotel, London
The theme for this year’s event is Leadership 2010 – Distilling the lessons of the past two years. It’s a must-attend event for anyone seeking a one-day, fast-track update on surviving and thriving in the post-recession, post-general election, coalition government world.
Financial Times political and business columnist Mike Southon will be giving a keynote presentation on political leadership, and providing insights on the economy will be keynote speaker Lord Eatwell, the CMI’s chief economist.
Mike Southon is a serial entrepreneur and co-author of four books on starting and growing businesses. He is probably best known as the co-author of the best-selling The Beermat Entrepreneur and Sales on a Beermat.
During the 1980s he co-founded The Instruction Set, a computer services company, which he later sold to what is now Cap Gemini. He worked with 17 start-up ventures during the 1990s, two of which, Riversoft and Micromuse, later listed on the stock exchange.
Mike is a visiting fellow in innovation and entrepreneurship at London South Bank University and a fellow of both the Royal Society of Arts and the Professional Speakers’ Association.
Mike will be discussing how political leadership really makes a difference, what lessons businesses can learn from politics and how political leadership helps shape economies.
Lord Eatwell is Professor of Financial Policy at Cambridge University. He is the author of CMI’s Economic Outlook reports, which regularly test the temperature of the economy by researching the views and experiences of senior executives.
Lord Eatwell will be presenting the findings of the latest Economic Outlook report at the National Conference in October.
CMI president-elect Terry Morgan CCMI, chairman of Crossrail, will give the welcoming address and the first keynote of the day, presented by Ruth Spellman OBE CCMI, the chief executive of CMI, who will be focusing on the key lessons to be learned from the recession.
