Log on to a new job

According to data in the public domain provided by online recruiter Jobsite (August), the number of companies recruiting online has risen in the last quarter - (cost savings I hear you cry) The research shows that the number of firms hiring rose by 4% on the previous quarter to 48% while 11% more SME / Medium sized companies advertised vacancies in this format compared to the previous quarter.

This same research highlighted an 8% increase in candidates using between three and five job boards to find work.

These online job boards remain the most popular source of information for jobseekers with 79% using them compared to the 67% that use newspapers, 76% that go direct to company web sites and 24% that focus on job fairs.

Realistic? Perhaps but all the major newspapers also advertise on line (its way cheaper) and many Corporates don't advertise direct as it is cheaper for them to get a first sift via a recruitment agent.

Thoughts?

Isn't a lot of recruitment done via word of mouth these days?  At least that is what the popular opinion seems to be about networking etc.

Networking is the most proven method certainly. I read (somewhere) that up to 80% of all jobs in certain sectors - Finance was one - are unadvertised.
