![]() |
Do you like to read books on management? Do you always find time to read, despite the many pressures you have to contend with at work and at home? Do you like books that challenge you to think about the bigger issues and the wider responsibilities management involves? Or do you just want quick, practical information, to help you get through the tasks you have to take on? We are passionate about books at CMI – we write them, publish them and, of course read them. Because we place such high importance on management writing, we have joined forces with the British Library to launch the Management Book of the Year competition, with a prize of £5000 for the author of the overall winning title. |
The competition is open to all publishers of management books. There are three categories for book entries:
Practical Manager – books that give insights into management work and practices
Innovation and Entrepreneurship – books that encourage creativity, innovation, organisational adaptation or new business development
Digital Management Book – books that use technology to enhance readers’ experiences or engagement, or present content in innovative ways. The winner of this category will be decided by public vote.
CMI CEO Ruth Spellman OBE CCMI says: “We are delighted to be working with the British Library to highlight and celebrate the latest and best books on management. We hope it will help to boost interest in management books, recognise the outstanding writers in this genre and the publishing houses that invest in providing us with thought-provoking, useful, practical reading material.”
British Library chief executive Dame Lynne Brindley says: “As one of the world’s greatest research libraries, the British Library is a key player in the UK knowledge economy. Partnering with CMI on this award is a great opportunity to highlight the strength of the Library’s digital and print resources on management, and demonstrate our commitment to supporting lifelong learning for management professionals through the collections and our internationally acclaimed Business & Intellectual Property Centre.”
The competition is open to qualifying books published or distributed in the UK between 1 August 2009 and 31 July 2010, or digital books published between 1 August 2008 and 31 July 2010. The closing date for entries is 31 July 2010.
There will be lots of opportunities to share your views, comment on the long-list and subsequent short-listed books and the overall winning title.
Suggest a potential prize-winning book and/or share your views on the value of management books to you and your professional development.

Sounds good. Books are a great way of keeping up to date with the latest thinking. It's a bit of a minefield knowing when books are published though. I don't fancy checking back through all the books I've read this year to see when they were published.
Could there be a list of all management titles published in that time frame?
Great idea, I'll get onto the releveant people and let you know the outcome. Thanks for your blog.
Don't forget all that we have an ongoing thread in the forums for you to share your favourite business/management books.
A full list of books submitted for management book of the year will be published after 31 August 2010.
