What is your management style?
There are lots of different management styles out there, from democratic to autocratic. So with that in mind we launched a new application today to help you find out your strengths and weaknesses.
The app is called CompareTheManager (cool huh?) and consists of a simple quiz that determines your management strengths, and then compares you to a famous manager.
At the end of the quiz you get offered around £30 of free resources to help you improve your management skills. I'm tempted to say simples but shall refrain as we're comparing managers, not meerkats. Unless you're a meerkat that manages things. We don't discriminate on the basis of genus.
I took the quiz this morning and came out as Richard Branson, so I was quite pleased with that. I just need to work on getting his bank balance now. Anyway, it's good fun so have a go and see who you get compared to.

Haha, I came up as Alan Sugar. I'm way too cheery to be Alan Sugar. I demand a recount :D
I came out as billionaire Phillip Green - so I am hoping that some of the 'billionaire' will rub off!
Linda :-)
I got Alex Ferguson. Interesting stuff. How academically rigorous is it?
Delia Smith. Delia bloody Smith. I dooooon't believe it.

Hi Wayne. The app is based on one of our diagnostic tools that goes into the issue in much more depth. You can have a look around this here - http://www.managers.org.uk/practical-support/management-tools-diagnostics
So to answer your question, it is loosely based on academic work, but it should be taken as intended, a bit of fun to spark debate.

Mike, I expect to see you doing some of this at your next meeting.
Bit of a bizarre one here, but the West Midlands strategic health authority have launched a new quiz to try and make management cool, with one of the comparisons being between Fabio Capello and Hitler.

I saw that. One of those "what on earth were you thinking?" moments.
Interesting piece here saying that the 'Alan Sugar style' of management is bad news in local government.

"The type of management attributes that will make a difference in future are kindness, consideration and good listening skills – it's not about putting people down or criticising them for what they've done wrong", she says. "The majority of people spend a lot of hours at work and they need to feel valued and have hope for the future."
