Why you should blog with CMI

The CMI has over 90,000 members, all with unique skills and experience that I'd love to be able to share with the rest of the community.  Writing on The Management Blog is a great way of sharing your knowledge and improving your own exposure and personal branding.  If you're still not convinced though, here are 10 reasons why you should get cracking.

1. Reach thousands of managers
We have over 90,000 managers and this blog reaches a good number of them.  So far this month the blog has had over 35,000 visits.  It is also distributed to our many followers on Twitter and onto news aggregators such as Google News and News Now so your views would be reaching a good audience.

2. Get fantastic feedback
So far we've had well over 3,000 comments left on the blog so you will get some fantastic feedback on the views you express in your article.  Some may confirm what you thought, some may give you fresh avenues to explore.

3. The best posts get a lot of views
Our most popular posts have 10's of thousands of views, which is fantastic exposure for you and your thoughts.

4. Expose your business to the finest managerial minds
Each article you write is a great advert for you and the business you work for.  You're advertising your company to some of the finest managerial minds in the land.

5. A badge of honour
We don't accept just anyone onto The Management Blog.  Your article has to solve a managerial problem and be of interest to our members.  If you get your article listed here it carries real kudos for you and your career.

6. An online reference
More and more employers are turning to Google when researching potential employees.  By writing an article for The Management Blog you're adding to your personal brand by ensuring one of those listings in Google is one that sells you and your skills well to future employers.

7. Great search engine optimisation
A link on the CMI website is highly regarded by the search engines and where we don't allow advertising on the site this is a great way to get yourself a top link back to your company website.

8. Google News listing
Getting into Google News is a great way of raising your profile.  The Management Blog is listed in Google News so you would get direct entry into it, in addition to fellow news site, NewsNow.

9. Sent to thousands around the world
Our Twitter channel has over 4,100 followers who will receive your article.  In addition the blog is also syndicated on LinkedIn to our group there, currently running at around 4,100 members and is included on sites such as BusinessWeek, Alltop and Leadership Digital.

10. Knock on benefits
Do you fancy becoming the expert in your field, showered with speaking engagements and other such gigs?  Whilst I can't promise anything of the sort, writing regularly for The Management Blog will go a long way to raising your profile.  I have personally gained a number of speaking engagements from the blog.  You can too.

What we want from a guest submission

If your article is concise, well written and thought out then it is likely to be approved.  We're happy to post articles aimed at beginners or those helping more seasoned managers.  The article does need to solve a problem in some way though.  Try asking these questions of your article:

  • Would it be a 'most emailed story'?
  • Would I read the story if I didn't write it?
  • Would my boss read the story?
  • Will other websites/blogs be inspired to comment on it?
  • Would a specialist learn something from this story?

Use a picture

Pictures speak a thousand words and are a great addition to a story.  Google images have a commercial search function whereby you can find images that are free to re-use so you can generally find some good images to accompany your story.

Uniqueness

Your story has to be unique.  We will scan the web for duplicates so please submit a unique piece of work to us.

Spelling

Articles are also run through the spell checker and whilst are happy to change the odd one or two here or there, if the story is riddled with spelling mistakes it is likely to be rejected.

That's pretty much it.  Above all else we want this to be fun and beneficial to you.  I hope the authors that have written for us thus far have benefited from the process.  If you have any further questions you're welcome to email me.  If you're ready to go though...
