You can be an outstanding Professional Manager

You can be an outstanding Professional manager

Managers are different from Managers. Some are new into the management system, some have been there for donkey years and are no better than those who have just started simply because they haven’t learnt the skills of a professional manager, neither have they turned their past experiences and mistakes into a learning point.

No wonder you find out some people ‘deal with their bosses’, when they know that the boss simply can’t deal with them.

You can be an excellent Professional Manager, if you can do the following:

Prepare a business plan with a valid business case, think clearly and get things going, set objectives and write reports

Develop your people, be assertive in the process and have that influential spirit to lead them.

Be ready to hand difficult people and negative behaviour as well as manage conflict. You need to be emotionally intelligent though. Some will be under-performing, how will you manage them and hence be able to recover from setbacks as a result?

Be creative in the way you make things happen with your staff when planning and organising, motivating and problem solving, managing change and performance etc.

Communicate effectively and coordinate, but controlling where needed with the aim of achieving a sustainable improvement

Delegate but coach where necessary and prepare for the unexpected-when and how things go wrong and how you can make them right

Manage projects, risks involved, systems and processes, prioritize tasks negotiate and make excellent strategic decisions. Networking will also help you either internally or externally

Don’t forget, you may get stressed; you need to be able to manage this. It is part of making you an effective team leader and hence a learning opportunity for your team members who may be going through the same experience. Crisis management is the key here.

Don’t forget the office politics, it’s part of what you need to manage

Ensure that your customers are satisfied

Be able to interview people and confidently ready to be interviewed

Run and participate in effective meetings as well as making effective presentations?

Manage your boss?

And finally managing your time.

The key to your achievement here is training and development.  You don’t need to go for another BSc, MSc or PhD, becoming a member of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), through Professional Global Training Institute is the key. CMI possesses a wealth of resources to support not only you but your organisation as well as country.

You can also become a Chartered Manager - the hallmark of a Professional Manager and a worldwide recognised Professional status
