To flip this on its head, is it possible to become a CEO without having a 'God Complex'?

Hmm, now that's a question.  Anyone any thoughts?

Nice piece here bursting the bubble of the superstar CEO

Companies need a chief executive to chart a vision, set a strategy and make major personnel decisions. It does not need them to play the role of magician—as investors like to cast Steve Jobs—or to take on the role of sales chief or technical wizard, as Balsillie and Lazaridis have been cast. In either case, it’s a reminder that we can put too much stock in what one leader can do—or, for that matter, two.

They have to justify their big salaries don't they?
