Writing references - Checklist 228
It is common practice for employers to take up references at some stage in the recruitment process, usually, but not exclusively, following interviews, and managers are often asked to act as referees for former colleagues or employees. This is perhaps not surprising, in view of reports that one in eight job hunters exaggerate or falsify information about their qualifications, and that more than a quarter of applicants’ CVs include inaccuracies.
