This new CMI study explores the views of 850 senior managers to detail the changing role of innovation in the recession. Developed from managers’ day-to-day experiences, the report encouragingly shows managerial commitment to innovation yet warns of distinct challenges ahead.

Key findings

  • 70 per cent of managers agree that the recession will reinforce their organisations' focus on innovation.
  • An open and supportive management style is the top catalyst for promoting innovation.
  • However, 37 per cent of public sector managers and 27 per cent of private sector managers believe the recession will reduce the available resources for innovation.

The report goes on to deliver key recommendations for managers to promote innovative working in their teams and organisations.
