Grey matters: how will age legislation affect employment?

The APPGM met in November 2005 to examine the Government's proposals to tackle age discrimination in the workplace. DTI Minister Gerry Sutcliffe gave some insights into the Government's position prior to publication of the final draft legislation.

The director of the British Gas Engineering Academy, Rod Kenyon OBE, offered an employers' perspective on the links between ageism and the equality agenda as a whole, and the links between the skills agenda and age. Dianah Worman of the CIPD also presented findings from the CIPD and Chartered Management Institute's joint research report into ageism at work, Tackling age discrimination in the workplace: creating a new age for all.

The meeting, held at the Commonwealth Club, WC2, also included a lively and wide-ranging debate during the question and answer session.
