CMI Manifesto for a Better Managed Britain

Times are tough. Now more than ever, the quality of the UK’s management and leadership is critical.

Based on consultation across CMI’s membership, our Manifesto for a Better Managed Britain – prepared ahead of the General Election – set out our views of the action needed from Government, from employers and from individual managers to upskill our managers and leaders. It argued that there is a fundamental need for better recognition of what managers do and a renewed effort to support their professional development.

The CMI Manifesto was launched at a cross-party Parliamentary meeting with then-Minister Ian Lucas MP, the Conservative Shadow Minister John Hayes MP – now Minister of State for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning – and the Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State, John Thurso MP.  Its pledges for action were signed by thousands of managers, employers and politicians from across the parties.

While the  Election is long over, CMI continues to press for action to create a Better Managed Britain. We’re currently working with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to implement the Government’s commitment in the 2010 Skills Strategy to create a new framework to support better leadership and management. We also help keep management and leadership on the policy agenda through our work across a range of areas. You can read our latest policy submissions here.
