The response draws on the Institute's strong working relationship with the Police Service across the UK and experience of developing various qualifications for the sector. It calls for the Home Office, the National Police Improvement Agency (NPIA) and individual police forces to work collaboratively to increase the strategic impact of leadership and management (L&M) skills throughout the Police Service. These skills will help individuals deliver the Service’s goals as outlined in the Green Paper.
The Institute also recommends that the Home Office shares best L&M practice with each force across the UK and calls for appropriate L&M qualifications to become a requirement for all police officers, regardless of rank, rather than being a requirement only for senior officers.
