Chartered Manager is a competence-based award that reviews your key achievements and the impact this has had on your organisation. It focuses on the practical application of your skills and expertise in leading people and managing change.
It’s a streamlined and credible process with support every step of the way, and designed to fit in with your work schedule:
- Online assessment questionnaire completed by yourself and six colleagues
- A validated submission to describe how you have applied leadership and change management skills to improve performance/results in your organisation over the last 18 months, and how you have developed as a manager
- An assessment interview
Registration and fees paid are valid for a 12 month period only.
You have a choice of routes to complete these steps. Each route assesses against the same criteria but uses different assessment techniques:
A. Online submission and panel assessment with Advisor support
- Distance support (via email or telephone) to help you produce your submission and prepare for panel interview
- A structured approach that helps you with each stage
- Online assessment of Impact
- Panel interview at a CMI venue
- Award can be achieved in as little as 4-6 months
- Average time to complete is 20 hours
- Costs £570 + VAT (This can be paid in two installments)
B. Assessment via Professional Discussion
- A highly personalised service that is assessor led
- Combines stages 2 and 3 above, with your submission compiled and assessed through an on-site visit (UK & Ireland only) from our Assessor*
- Overcomes issues of confidential or sensitive information as viewed onsite
- Ideal for the busy manager with limited time - commitment of 4-6 hours
- A swifter route to award being achieved in as little as 2 months
- Costs £995 + VAT for a 12 month registration
C. Fellow Assessment route
- Exclusively available to existing Fellows (FCMI) of the Institute or those eligible to upgrade*
- Focuses on strategic experience and impact
- Written submission drafted by you and finalised through an assessor led telephone interview
- Efficient and personalised service with award achieved in as little as 2 months
- Average time to complete is 10 - 15 hours
- Costs £495 + VAT
* 10 years management experience of which 3 must be at a strategic level

If successful, you’re awarded Chartered Manager for 3 years. We’ll prompt you to keep up to date with your CPD, and give you the opportunity for re-award demonstrating your continuing ability to apply leadership and change skills for the benefit of your organisation. Renewal can be completed in as little as 2-4 hours.
