SVQ Qualifications (SCQF)

Our Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) are new work-related, vocational qualifications that enable you to learn at your own pace in a way that suits you. They have been designed with the help of employers, which mean you're gaining the kind of skills that employers are looking for.

  

These new qualifications are revised versions of the SVQ Level 2 in Team Leading, Level 3 SVQ in Management, Level 4 SVQ in Management and Level 5 SVQ in Management. For more information on what has changed please click here.

 

SVQ2 Team Leading at SCQF Level 5  

The SVQ 2 in Team Leading has been designed for people who lead a team and are responsible for the team’s performance. Although no previous formal qualifications are required to embark on the SVQ, participants will need to demonstrate team leading experience.

Typical units:

  •  Manage your own resources
  • Allocate and check work in your team
  • Encourage innovation in your team
  • Participate in meetings
  • Initiate and follow grievance procedure

 

SVQ3  Management at SCQF Level 7  

The SVQ3 in Management is aimed at managers who have a responsibility for supporting the development of a team and contributing to planning, problem solving and decision making. Although no previous formal qualifications are required to embark on the SVQ, participants will need to demonstrate first line management experience.

Typical units:

  • Provide leadership for your team
  • Allocate and monitor the progress and quality of work in your area of responsibility
  • Develop and implement operational plans for your area of responsibility
  • Provide learning opportunities for colleagues
  • Manage a budget

 

SVQ4 Management at SCQF Level 9 

The SVQ4 in Management is designed for middle managers who have a responsibility to manage business processes and contribute to the daily running of an organisation. Although no previous formal qualifications are required to embark on the SVQ, participants will need to demonstrate middle management experience.

Typical units:

  • Manage business processes
  • Develop productive working relationships in your area of responsibility
  • Develop personal networks
  • Recruit, select and keep colleagues
  • Manage physical resources

 

 

SVQ5 Management at SCQF Level 11 

The SVQ5 in Management is aimed at senior managers to support the development of their leadership skills, implementation of change and promotion of knowledge management within their organisation. Although no previous formal qualifications are required to embark on the SVQ, participants will need to demonstrate substantial senior management experience.

Typical units:

  • Provide leadership for your organisation
  • Improve organisational performance
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, ethical and social requirements
  • Outsource business processes
  • Carry out quality audits

 

Progression

These qualifications provide opportunities for progression to other qualifications at higher levels, which could also be work-based or more academically structured. The qualifications also support learners in meeting requirements for work and/or employment within all areas of management and leadership at this level.
