CMI heads to South East Asia for UK’s first Chartered trade mission
- UK Department for International Trade to lead five-day April tour of Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam
- CMI to meet with industry, universities, and policymakers to boost international reach
- Delegation to include representatives also from CIPD, CII, ICAEW, IET, and RICS
Ann Francke, chief executive of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), will head to Asia-Pacific to meet with senior representatives from industry, higher education, and government as part of the UK’s first trade mission to promote Chartered professsions.
The five-day tour in mid-April will be led by the UK Department for International Trade and will stop off at Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City.
CMI is the only professional body able to award the unique Chartered Manager accreditation, and will use the trip to build new partnerships in the region and promote the standard.
The trade mission is the latest phase in CMI’s overseas strategy. CMI already works through partnerships with seven universities in Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong to dual-accredit qualifications. Malaysia’s UNIRAZAK has just reported its first cohort of MBA students to gain CMI-backed qualifications that will lead to Chartered Manager status.
Last year, CMI also partnered with Australia-based Institute of Managers and Leaders to make Chartered Manager available to professionals in Australia and New Zealand, and offer a fast-track route through its Pathway programme in 55 universities. More than 3,600 MBA students will work towards Chartered status over the next five years.
Achieving Chartered status means working to the highest internationally recognised professional standard, and is a competitive advantage for workers and business. Increasing the availability of Chartered bodies’ standards, education programmes and networks in South East Asia is an important aim of this trade mission and we hope we can continue to strengthen trading links as well as building capacity and capabilities locally.
Chartered Professional Bodies are a great UK creation, with the global reputation and reach to drive international standards of professionalism. They provide opportunities for high-value partnerships with universities, government and employers in South East Asia. They also play a critical role in capacity building, helping economies to grow, driving educational standards and innovation, and supporting common governance standards to support trade.
CMI will be joined on the trade mission by representatives from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Chartered Insurance Institute, Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Institution of Engineering and Technology, and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
