First Chartered Manager Degree Apprentices graduate from Coventry University
A group of Coventry University Chartered Manager Degree Apprentices (CMDA) have become the first cohort to complete the qualification.
Joe Haycock-Burton, Dan Taylor, Greg Harwood, Harry Cleevely and Ben Large who undertook the CMDA with GE Aviation, have now all been offered permanent jobs within the company. They achieved BA (Hons) Management and Leadership, as well as the CMI Level 6 diploma in Management and Leadership.
Today, management apprenticeships are one of the fastest growing areas within higher education. According to a Universities UK report, the flagship Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship is tipped to be the most subscribed of the new breed of degree-level apprenticeships in 2018. The trailblazing CMDA was developed by a group of 40 employers in partnership with a number of higher education institutions and the Chartered Management Institute, is now offered by 51 universities in the UK.
This is fantastic news. I am absolutely delighted that our CMDA apprentices are the first ever to complete this new degree apprenticeship, and I congratulate them on their well-deserved success. I would also like to thank CMI for the opportunity to help develop the new apprenticeship.
Chartered Manager status is the UK's highest management accreditation. According to CMI's Mapping Management Excellence 2015 report, Chartered Managers add on average £391k in value to their employer, and 83% say they have become a better manager as a result of attaining professional status.
We're extremely proud of our apprentices – pioneers of the CMDA. Their hard work and determination, balancing a high level of study time whilst maintaining full time roles shows true dedication. The programme strategy ensures we are training apprentices ready for management experience within the business. We look forward to coaching our current and future cohorts on this journey.

Notes to editors
Congratulations to the first five Chartered Manager Degree Apprentices completing their courses from Coventry University with flying colours, securing them ready-made jobs at GE Aviation. These apprenticeships are allowing students to gain the world-class professional skills employers need to compete internationally.
Through the apprenticeship I have learned the inter-personal skills as well as technical knowledge required to succeed. I've come out with four and a half years of experience with a global company, as well as an honours degree, a respected professional qualification and a broad range of soft skills - putting me in a far more employable position. I have been successful in securing a permanent position within the company where I will continue to work and learn every day. I want to continue to be challenged and to grow. I’m really excited about the next stage of my development.
It sounds a bit cheesy, but I feel as if I started as a boy, but finished as a man. What you learn equips you to go into a range of different roles. Add to that earning a wage and getting solid work experience while you study, and you can't go wrong.
The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) is the only chartered professional body for management and leaderships, dedicated to improving managers' skills and growing the number of qualified managers.
Our professional management qualifications span GCSE to PhD equivalents, including the unique Chartered Manager award, which increases earning potential and improves workplace performance. We have been registered as an apprentice assessment organisation by the Skills Funding Agency.
