Huddersfield University’s management on track to become first 100% Chartered organisation

  • HRH The Duke of York presents awards to vice-chancellor and 80 senior managers in graduation ceremony
  • 250 more managers lined up for Chartered programme
  • Ambitious plan to become first large organisation in the world to be led and managed entirely by Chartered Managers

Huddersfield University has recognised the first 83 members of its senior management and leadership team to achieve Chartered Manager status, with the cohort including vice-chancellor Prof Bob Cryan. This is the first tranche in its ambitious plan to become the world’s first large organisation to be managed by a 100% Chartered team.

In a special ceremony Huddersfield University chancellor HRH The Duke of York, Prince Andrew, presented the graduating academic and professional services managers with certificates and congratulated the high achievers with handshakes.

As part of the rigorous accreditation process senior managers completed CMI's L7 postgraduate-level Strategic Management and Leadership certificate. Huddersfield University's remaining 250 managers are now on course to achieve Chartered status by 2020, with the next cohort of 115 to complete by the middle of 2019. All managers will follow a bespoke course of blended study, workshops, tutorials and e-learning that has been designed to tackle 'real-world' leadership challenges facing the University.

CMI and Huddersfield University already enjoys close ties. The University’s senior team includes seven appointed CMI Companions – the invitation-only network for recognised business leaders – more than any other organisation. CMI also partners with the University to dual-accredit undergraduate and postgraduate business and management courses. Over the next three years more than 800 students will study for CMI-backed qualifications.

Huddersfield University has shown amazing dedication to professionalism in management, both in terms of boosting the skills of its team as well as those of its students. The programme is part of the University's wider seven-year strategy of transforming its leadership culture across its academic staff and operational team.

Chartered Manager is the highest accreditation in the field of management, and is currently held by more than 6,500 professional managers working across all industries and sectors. According to CMI research, Chartered Managers add an average of £391,000 of value to their employers. Managers can achieve Chartered status through a number of routes, including taking CMI-backed qualifications, taking a Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship, or demonstrating professional experience.
