Chartered Manager of the Year Award Winner 2019

Build, staff, equip and open a new school from scratch in Shanghai, in the space of just 10 months, knowing absolutely nothing about schools. Impossible? Not for Chartered Manager of the Year 2019, Matthew Carr CMgr FCMI.

Being a Chartered Manager gives you the tools to take on a challenge

Matthew Carr CMgr FCMI.

After being awarded Chartered Manager of the Year 2019 at the prestigious CMI President’s Dinner, ex-Royal Navy officer, Matthew Carr, shared his experiences with us on the project that earned him his well-deserved win.

"The Chinese have a concept called Guanxi," he says, "It’s about getting things done through who you know."

“How do you fit out a science lab when you know nothing about science? We were asking so many people to trust us. I was just a foreign guy in China, why would they listen to me? I had to convince people to share the dream of this school based on a building site in a remote field."

Matthew is just one of the thousands of Chartered Managers using it to harness their full potential, for their employers and themselves. With 83% becoming better managers for it, and 73% going on to exceed their targets as a result, who knows?

Our next Chartered Manager of the Year could be you.
