Ann Francke, chief executive of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), toured Asia-Pacific to meet with senior representatives from industry, higher education, and government as part of the UK's first trade mission to promote Chartered professions.
The five-day tour in mid-April was led by the UK Department for International Trade and stopped off at Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City.
CMI, as the only professional body able to award the unique Chartered Manager accreditation, used the trip to develop new and existing partnerships in the region and promote professional standards in Management and Leadership. CMI enjoyed the opportunity to participate with the other Chartered bodies in promoting the value of partnering with Chartered bodies and the value of Chartered status.
The trade mission was well aligned to CMI's global strategy in promoting awareness of Chartered status and its benefits. CMI already works in partnership with seven universities in Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong to embed CMI qualifications and Chartered Manager status into their programmes enhancing the employability and career development prospects of their students.
Through the mission CMI engaged, and is following up with, over 100 universities, government agencies and employers.
Achieving Chartered status means working to the highest internationally recognised professional standard, and is a competitive advantage for individuals and their employers. Increasing the availability of Chartered bodies' standards, education programmes and networks in South East Asia is an important aim of this trade mission and we hope we can continue to strengthen trading links as well as building capacity and capabilities locally
CMI were joined on the trade mission by CEO's and Directors from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development(CIPD), the Chartered Insurance Institute(CII), the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales(ICAEW), the Institution of Engineering and Technology(IET), and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors(RICS) to raise the profile and impact of Chartered status across a range of professions.
