Join the CMI Highland Network at this event as we look at leadership through times of change.   

With challenging economic times, change is something we all have to deal with, whether in the private, public or third sector and the event will provide an opportunity for discussion, sharing experiences and networking. 

A session on change management theory led by Cath Sutherland from the Virtual Learning Academy will provide an opportunity for discussion.

As well as the theory of change management and how it affects managers in the Highlands, Inglis Lyon, Managing Director of Highlands and Islands Airport Limited will share his experience of leading through periods of change.

Change and the CMI will provide a session with some fun activities as we reflect on leadership and change management with some simple toolkits for you to take away and utilise within your workplace.

With change becoming a constant state within our working lives, this free event is key for anyone working or studying in the field of management and leadership.

Cath Sutherland

Cath Sutherland, Director, Virtual Learning Academy

Cath Sutherland spent three years as a CMI Scotland Board member. She now remains committed to the mission of the CMI by continuing this work on the committee of the CMI Highland Network. She is currently a Fellow of the CMI and of the IOD.

Continuing with the travel theme for this event, Cath started spent 15 years in the travel industry. Starting her management career at the age of 21 she moved from managing Scotland’s smallest branch in the Highlands to Scotland’s largest branch in Edinburgh! After a successful career in middle and senior management she returned to the Highlands and moved into management development lecturing at Inverness College.

Cath then founded the Virtual Learning Academy which was set up with the mission to ‘overcome the barriers to learning’ inherent in the UK’s most remote region – the Highlands & Islands. As a fully accredited CMI Centre, the VLA now work with managers and leaders to gain a CMI qualification, both in the Highlands and across the UK.

Inglis Lyon

Inglis Lyon, Managing Director, Highlands & Islands Airports Ltd

Born in Aberdeen and educated in Inverness, Inglis completed an apprenticeship with a local garage before gaining an honours degree in Transport Technology from the University of Belfast.

He joined Stagecoach in 1992 as its first graduate. He held a variety of management positions, initially in depot management in Chorley, Bolton and Carlisle before moving into senior management where he held posts of Operations Director in Cumbria and Managing Director of Stagecoach divisions throughout England and Africa.

Inglis joined Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd in 2005 as Managing Director, responsible for 11 airports in Scotland. Key aspects of his work have been the development of the scheduled air network at HIAL airports and business transformation within the Scottish Government owned operator, including commercialisation and business efficiency.

Liz Hoskin

Liz Hoskin, CMI Scotland Board Chair & Director, Positive Qualities

Liz Hoskin is the Chair of the Scottish Board for the Chartered Management Institute as her passion is to promote Heart Centred Leadership with the many clients she works with. She is a Chartered Manager and a Fellow of CMI together with being a Fellow of the Institute of Directors.

Liz Hoskin is the founder of Positive Qualities Ltd, a positive transformation consultancy and she has an exceptional ability to read people and then work with them to enable them to realise their potential. It has been said that every company needs Liz Hoskin and her team as there is a noticeable change in the energy and results of the businesses once they have worked with Positive Qualities Ltd.

In her spare time Liz has set up a programme for disadvantaged youth called The Positive Possibilities Programme™ to enable young people to build confidence, resilience and raise their aspirations to achieve a better quality of life and set them up for a brighter future. So far over 200 young people have successfully completed the Positive Possibilities Programme all moving on to a positive destination with a positive outcome.

Recently as part of her OSR (Our Social Responsibility) mission she has set up an” Immersion Hospitality Academy Programme” where unemployed individuals are trained to work within the 4 and 5 star Hospitality Sector. Together with her Hospitality partners, they have helped to create in excess of 60 jobs so far for the graduates of the “Immersion Hospitality Academy”. Liz believes that if every company replaces CSR with OSR, we will be able to provide - real access to practical skills, emotional support and wellbeing, qualifications and a career with possibilities for all the people who we have previously overlooked.
