Why become an Officer Cadet?

An Officer Cadet is a unique opportunity for any student. Offered only at selected universities, it guides cadets through Management and Leadership modules, through which they learn and develop the practical and personal skills that enhance and complement the technical skills and knowledge gained as part of their university degree. By becoming an Officer Cadet you will:

Military training

Develop yourself as a leader by taking part in military exercises, adventurous training, sport, community projects and expeditions both in the UK and overseas.

Self development

Show employers that you have the discipline to self-develop outside of academic study.

Paid on duty

Get paid when on duty*.

Level 5

Earn a CMI Level 5 qualification in Management and Leadership, where you can go on to become a Chartered Manager.

Tools

Gain access to invaluable tools and resources to support you throughout the programme.

Independent regiment

Belong to an independent unit with its own ethos and traditions.

How do I obtain my qualification?

University Royal Naval Units (URNU)

University Royal Naval Units (URNU)

By successfully completing Phases 1 - 4 of your URNU training, you will be eligible for a CMI level 5 Award in Management and Leadership. You can aim even higher with the CMI level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership by further completing a Personal Development Plan.

University Officer Training Corps (UOTC)

University Officer Training Corps (UOTC)

By successfully completing Modules A and B of your UOTC training you will be eligible for a CMI level 5 Award in Management and Leadership. You can top this up to the CMI level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership by further completing a Personal Development Plan.
