Why did you decide to become a Chartered Manager?The reason I became a Chartered Manager was to reflect on my own leadership skills, to have a look into my own personal development and career development, to challenge myself and to see if I could take my leadership skills to the next level.
How have you benefited from becoming Chartered? Becoming a Chartered Manager helped me to have a more reflective approach and enabled me to review how I lead my team. It has also given me credibility within my work environment and with my peers. Gaining Chartered status was a rewarding moment in my career and helped me to become part of a community of other managers in the field.
Would you recommend becoming a Chartered Manager?I would absolutely recommend any manager to looking into becoming Chartered. It gives you a lot of credibility and it helps you to reflect on your leadership style.

The exemption route is for experienced managers who already hold a CMI Level 5 or above Diploma in Management & Leadership.
The experiential route is for experienced managers who do not already have a degree-level management qualification.
The qualified route is for managers who already hold a degree-level management qualification.
You will need to meet the following criteria:
The exemption upgrade builds upon the knowledge and expertise demonstrated through completion of your qualification.
Assessment is undertaken by completion of a written submission, detailing the learning gained, the improvement in your management practice and the positive, measurable contribution you have made to your organisation. You will then need to send the completed form to CMI for validation.
Upon approval of your written submission you will be awarded Chartered Member (CMgr MCMI) or Chartered Fellow (CMgr FCMI) dependent on experience.
You would need to meet the following criteria:
Assessment is divided into two parts. The first, is completion of a full draft of the written submission form to demonstrate consistent and effective performance in the past 18 months. Followed by a telephone discussion with the assessor.
The second, is an on-site interview assessing your knowledge against the certificate qualification. This will involve gathering work based evidence and personal research.
After successful completion you will achieve Chartered Member (CMgr MCMI) or Chartered Fellow (CMgr FCMI) as well as CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management & Leadership.
Assessment is undertaken either by written submission or professional discussion demonstrating consistent and effective performance in the past 18 months.
Upon successful completion you will be awarded Chartered Member (CMgr MCMI) or Chartered Fellow (FCMI) dependent on experience.
Written submission - £315** +VAT
Professional Discussion - £515** +VAT
*Diploma in management at Level 5 or above (Scottish SCQF Level 9). NVQ or SVQ at Level 4 and above. University degree (BSc or BA) or higher (e.g. MSc, MBA or MA, PHD), with any of the following either at its core or in the course title: Management, Business or Leadership. Additional qualifications confirmed by CMI include CEng, CIMA, ACCA, Chartered CIPD & Armed forces senior qualifications. Additionally, we accept Certificate in Management with 5 years management experience.
