How CMI resources can plug knowledge gaps, revamp your CV and help you nail that interview
Written by CMI Insights Tuesday 29 April 2025
We’re always amazed at the sheer range of people who make up the CMI community. Our members are dentists and firefighters, energy sector executives and heads of software start-ups. They’re retired army veterans, seasoned charity workers and youngsters enhancing their early career with a management degree apprenticeship.
But one thing that unites them all is a commitment to ongoing learning.
So, it came as no surprise that, when we looked back over our conversations with CMI members, they had so much to say about the benefits of our Career Development Centre (CDC).
The CDC is an online resource that provides a wealth of tools, information and advice for managers and leaders who understand the value of ongoing learning and are proactive about pursuing it – at every stage of their career. It offers everything from AI-powered CV-writing support and interview practice to expert advice videos and interactive e-learning courses, to help you discover and develop new career possibilities and business skills.
Here’s what CMI members have said about the CDC and the role it’s played in their trajectory…
Revealing your strengths
A great place to start is Management Diagnostics. Designed to aid personal development and career progression, this tool allows users to take a self-assessment, identify their strengths and skills gaps and receive tailored guidance in the form of a personalised development plan.
“You are your own brand, and if you’re not improving and developing all the time, your brand is going backwards,” said Harjinder Hayer CMgr FCMI, who works in IT asset management at Birmingham City Council and was a Chartered Manager of the Week in March. Harjinder stressed how the continued learning he gets through a combination of CMI’s resources and diagnostic tools empowers him to support the council to provide residents with improved digital services.
In the healthcare sector, Debbie McArthur fCMgr, head of apprenticeships and leadership development at the East Suffolk North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, told us how Management Diagnostics showed her areas in which she could improve, “allowing me to focus on my blind spots”.
Dr Hiba Khan, CMgr FCMI, chief revenue officer at Medics Academy, told us how approaching Management Diagnostics with an open mind threw up some very useful surprises.
“It revealed strengths I didnt even realise I had and weaknesses that I was unaware of,” she said, “allowing me to approach team management and leadership in a way that ultimately benefited my organisation.”
