Flexible Working and the Future of Work: managing employees since Covid-19

Friday 03 February 2023

A joint research report published by the University of Birmingham, University of York and University of Kent on the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on flexible working. It finds that managers are more likely to see flexible working as a way of enhancing performance; there is less perceived need for employees to be in the office to progress their careers; and that these changes are starting to reduce the stigma of flexible working.

However, there are challenges around surveillance at work and there are signs that a long hours culture might be returning to workplaces.

The report contains recommendations for employers, managers and policymakers.
