International HE Partner of the Year: “A clear vision of good management”

All over the world, higher education (HE) institutions are equipping learners with the skills they need to flourish in a rapidly changing economy. At our recent President’s Dinner, we were delighted to reveal the winners of the CMI Awards of Excellence – including our International HE Partner of the Year. 

Taking home the award this year was the Department of Postgraduate and Professional Studies at the Faculty of Business and Management (DPPS FBM), part of Malaysia’s Universiti Teknologi MARA.

The award recognises CMI’s HE partners outside the UK and their commitment to improving standards of management and leadership. It’s our way of celebrating those institutions that have demonstrated a positive impact on their students’ experience, professional development and employability.

Aligned to industry

The DPPS FBM sets a fine example – and one aligned very closely with CMI’s values. The dynamic academic unit is dedicated to advancing postgraduate education and lifelong professional development in business and management. It plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of industry leaders, researchers and business professionals. 

One look at the department’s postgraduate suite shows the kind of consideration shown to meeting evolving challenges. It includes specialised master’s programmes designed to equip graduates with advanced competencies, as well as rigorous research pathways that foster intellectual inquiry, critical thinking and scholarly innovation. The DPPS FBM also runs a range of professional programmes and industry-linked initiatives aimed at upskilling managers and practitioners for an increasingly complex global business landscape. 

When judging the DPPS FBM’s entry, our panel highlighted its “clear vision of what good management looks like” and its successful adoption of flexible, blended learning and weekend modular formats, all of which serve to open up the world of management and leadership education to more people. The judges were particularly impressed by the near 100% completion rate for the master’s degree in human resource management and the high volume of graduates going on to secure leadership roles in key industries such as oil and gas, telecoms and banking.
