Using CMI’s Brand and Intellectual Property (IP)

As a Royal Chartered awarding body, CMI’s brand, name, and intellectual property (IP) are protected by law. They represent our credibility, reputation, and compliance with Ofqual and other regulators.

To protect both your organisation and CMI, please follow the guidance below when referencing CMI or using our materials.

Using the CMI name, logo, and brand

    Do:

  • Use the CMI logo, name, and assets only when your organisation has written approval or a valid partnership agreement.
  • Follow the CMI Brand Guidelines at all times.
  • Clearly describe your partnership status (e.g. CMI Recognised, CMI Accredited, CMI Approved Centre).

    Don't:

  • Use the CMI logo, crest, or name on marketing materials, websites, or course listings without permission.
  • Describe your course as CMI Accredited if it is CMI Recognised. This is misleading to learners and may breach your agreement.
  • Suggest your course leads to Chartered Manager unless confirmed by CMI.

Incorrect or unauthorised use of CMI branding is a serious compliance breach that may lead to suspension of your partnership and potential legal action.

Using CMI materials and content

All CMI learning, assessment, and marketing materials are protected by copyright.

    Do:

  • Request permission before reusing or adapting any CMI materials.
  • Reference CMI content correctly, attributing ownership where required.

    Don't:

  • Copy or distribute CMI materials or course content without written consent.
  • Edit or rebrand CMI resources as your own.
  • Share access to CMI platforms or digital content with unauthorised users.

Protecting personal data (GDPR)

If you use learner or member information in marketing:

  • Obtain written consent before using any photo, name, video or testimonial.
  • Do not publish personal data from CMI systems or member communities.
  • Follow your organisation’s data protection policy and the UK GDPR at all times.

Unauthorised use of personal data is a GDPR breach and can have legal and reputational consequences.
