Nigel Girling

Nigel Girling CMgr FCMI FRSA

Nigel has served more than 35 years in leadership roles including more than 25 years as a Director, CEO or Chairman. In the last 15 years he has been a regular speaker and writer on the topic of leadership, writing a blog that attracts an audience of tens of thousands and delivering keynote addresses to conferences for large organizations such as Pfizer, XPO Logistics, Astra Zeneca, Coca Cola, Sodexo and the SHE shows across the UK. He has acted as a mentor to hundreds of leaders and now designs leadership programmes for hundreds of organizations, filming and writing content for leaders undertaking CMI qualifications at higher levels, including the ‘doctoral’ level 8 in Strategic Direction & Leadership. He has been a subject matter expert on leadership subjects for CMI for 10 years and is a steering group member of the Government Task Force for engagement.

Cathy Mellor

Cathy has a passion for helping everyone achieve their full potential. She has worked extensively in science, business and managerial learning and development, education consultancy and social enterprise. She helps everyone develop their communication ability. Cathy also initiated and developed the Award Winning FIND YOUR VOICE programme, which helps children and young people become confident communicators, and values eloquent communication as a habit for life success. Her business model helps schools access these life changing skills which are currently largely ignored by the state education curriculum. She was named SKDC Business Pioneer 2016.
She is an acclaimed presenter, keynote speaker, trainer and educator with the ability to inspire others and to engage and wow an audience! Cathy helps people and businesses become more confident and authentic in the way they present themselves. She helps ensure you and your organisation speak directly to your customers’ needs. She’ll help you build an authentic personal narrative and present yourself more effectively in key meetings, team briefings and big set- pieces and pitches.
Cathy is a founding member of the ORACY NETWORK which includes leading organisations and academics who conduct research and produce robust evidence regarding the most effective use of spoken communication skills. Oracy ability is central to employability and career development, well-being, relationships, business and academic achievement.

Alan Searle

Alan Searle

The main aspects of Alan’s work are within coaching and development in the area of mental toughness and wellbeing. Embedding strong foundations in resilience and the ability to cope under stress and pressure, for the ultimate success for individuals and organisations. This is achieved by focusing on the core aspects of challenge, commitment, control and confidence to consolidate an overall understanding and appreciation of mental toughness and wellbeing from an organisational viewpoint. Alan obtained his BPS accredited degree in Psychology at the University of Hull and MBPsS accreditation from the British Psychology Society. Then went on to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. As the Director of Alan Searle Consultancy Limited, Alan promotes positive aspirations, providing professional talks at various conferences or within academic establishments. Raising the aspirations of individuals to push for their full potential and achievement of their goals, which is done through the discussion of a personal journey. The best leaders, staff and teams, understand instinctively, that when wellbeing is placed at the forefront of the culture, great things can happen.

Julie Sharpe

After a successful and varied career within HSBC Plc, Julie now works as a Consultant specialising in the design and delivery of highly effective Leadership/People Development and Customer Service/Sales training.
Having both designed and delivered successful programmes across many industry sectors within the UK and Europe, Julie is renowned for her ability to create a fun and interactive learning environment with a delegate centric style of delivery coupled with a sound knowledge of organisational culture and strategy.
Due to her experience of many business sectors including:- Banking & Finance, Retail, Information Technology, Utilities, Manufacturing, Construction, Leisure, FMCG, Health, Civil Service, MOD and Education, Julie has gained a genuine understanding of the challenges currently being faced by both employers and employees alike; allowing her to provide an in depth and empathetic consultancy service and along with her associates, efficiently produce and deliver bespoke, public or in-house programmes to effectively ‘close the gap’.
Julie's experience allows her to work confidently within any arena and at all levels within an organisation (both nationally and internationally) and has recently been crucially involved in both the design and facilitation of a new ‘key’ Senior Leadership Development Programme and a new Performance Management Workshop for a leading bank; in addition to a highly impactful Change Management programme for the MOD and the re-design and delivery of a Graduate Induction Programme for a food manufacturing company.
Julie has an MSc in Human Resource Management/Development – CIPD accredited and a 7303 certificate in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTTLS).
She is also qualified in a number of psychometrics and a licensed user and practitioner of Clinical Hypnotherapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Lego Serious Play (LSP) & Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL).

Currently a Director at Rex Associates Ltd, Alison is member of the Institute of Consulting and a volunteer board member for the East Midlands CMI; championing events. She holds a BA Hons in Business Management and has over 20 years’ experience as a consultant and facilitator. She has worked in senior management for many years across a range of industries including construction, telecoms, retail and manufacturing. She continues to work alongside Bishop Grosseteste University collaborating with various stakeholders to develop skill programmes.
Alison combines her skills with the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology to bring about positive change within organisations of all shapes and sizes though collaboration. As one of the few experienced Certified LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® Method Facilitators and Session Designers in the UK, Alison provides interactive collaborative sessions for team development, ideation, complex-problem solving, agile and next-level thinking for organisations such as University of Lincoln and Virgin Trains.
Alison also provides one-to-one business consultancy and has also designed the THREE STEPS TO GROWTH method. A structured, comprehensive gap analysis, reporting and action-planning process designed to help business owners and managers lead their business growth.

Denise Skinner

Currently working as an independent consultant I am a passionate believer in the need for excellent leadership and outstanding management practice in organisations. I see the CMI as playing a key role in this agenda and welcome the opportunity to work with Board of the East Midlands Region to support our members at all stages of their career.
My personal experience has been gained in a range of public and private sector organisations including having been an owner/ Director of a retail SME, a Board member of two private limited companies, a civil servant and holding academic and strategic leadership roles in Universities; most notably having been an Executive Dean contributing to the outstanding success of Coventry University in recent years. My particular expertise lies in the fields of trust, diversity and change management. I have an international academic reputation and I have published refereed journal articles, co-edited books and book chapters on these topics, regularly presented papers at international conferences and been an invited speaker at professional events.
In addition to being a Companion of the Chartered Institute of Management, I am a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD), a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD), a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), and an Emeritus Professor of Coventry University.
