This session is an opportunity to discuss the trends impacting quality management with the CQI’s CEO, Vincent Desmond, based on the CQI’s work representing the profession in the UK and globally, and to share your ideas on how the profession and the CQI should be responding.

Background

Over the past 100 years since the IQA / CQI was formed, the role of the Quality Professional has changed beyond recognition. Most recently, ISO 9001, for example, provided 7 quality management principles (customer focus, leadership, engagement of people, process approach, improvement, evidence-based decision making, and relationship management)

Similarly, the new EFQM Excellence (2020) Model extends its focus on driving organisational change and performance by connecting, facilitating, recognising and informing individuals and organisations alike to progress through innovative thinking, learning and development, empowering them to progress and significantly improve to the next level of performance.

We are now in the midst of what some refer to as Industry 4.0 – the fourth industrial revolution. Technological advancements in fields such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, big data, cloud computing, augmented and virtual reality, new materials, 3D printing, and the Internet of Things – and, perhaps more importantly, the ways in which these various factors can interact – present not just an opportunity, but a necessity for businesses to adapt to a new industrial reality.

Inevitably, these technologically driven shifts will result in a seismic transformation in the way many organisations go about their day-to-day business. This will require a cultural change that will affect the workforce and leadership. This is where Quality 4.0 comes in. The core concept of Quality 4.0 is about aligning the practice of quality management with the emerging capabilities of Industry 4.0; to help drive organisations toward operational excellence.

It is these trends, amongst others, that Vince will focus on in his presentation and to discuss with us how the CQI plans to respond to these trends.

This evening is not planned to be ‘just’ a ‘one-way’ dissemination of information, but as noted above, to share your ideas on how the profession and the CQI should be responding to these global trends impacting on your work as Quality Professionals, and how we evolve with respect to the next generation of Quality Professionals.

Do please come along and let’s have a very interesting discussion to inform and help to shape the future direction of the CQI.
