Press release:

CMI TO HOST INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY EVENT IN LEEDS

Tuesday 23 January 2018

“Balance Begins Within” will feature top speakers including Peter Dodd, Welcome to Yorkshire, China L’One and Ieva Baublyte

The Chartered Management Institute is to host a special event in Leeds for International Women’s Day. “Balance Begins Within” takes place on March 8 at the Queens Hotel and will focus on enabling self-belief for gender equality in the workplace. The event has been organised by the CMI’s North East, Yorkshire & Humberside board and is being run by regional volunteers supporting managers who work in the region.

The exciting International Women’s Day celebration will feature four inspiring speakers talking about their unique personal experiences and insights and will explore the pivotal relationship between practical know-how and self-belief in women at work.

The speakers include Peter Dodd, Commercial Director at Welcome to Yorkshire, We Run the World founder and CEO China L’One, Superbike racing champion Ieva Baublyte and former CMI Student Ambassador Champion Danielle Keeling.

Peter Dodd joined Welcome to Yorkshire in January 2009. He was pivotal in creating and delivering the Tour de Yorkshire, and also has over 15 years of global marketing experience with airlines, sea carriers, airports and destinations.

China L’One who came to the UK as a refugee aged just 13, is a leading international DJ who founded her all-girl DJ agency We Run the World in 2012 with the aim of finding in-roads into the male-dominated music industry. Last year, both China L’One and her agency were nominated for the 2018 BWB Award for Business Woman of the Year and Business of the Year.

Ieva Baublyte was born in Lithuania and started riding bikes at the age of 17. She soon progressed and by 2017 was competing in the British Superbikes support class Ducati Trioptions. Now a member of the YAS team, she has achieved amazing results in a very male-dominated sport.

Danielle Keeling studied at the University of Derby and graduated with a First Class CMI- accredited degree in Business Management. Now working as a Personal Tax Assistant at Ernst & Young, she founded the CMI Student Board at Derby University and is a former member of the CMI East Midlands Regional Board.

Establishing gender equality at work can seem like an insurmountable challenge for everyone involved - both employees and employers alike. It’s often hard to know where to start. Our International Women’s Day event will provide a wealth of useful insights, tips and advice – and will be relevant to a broad audience whether junior, senior, male or female.

About CMI Women

CMI has been advocating gender balance since 1969 when we launched the Women in Management initiative.

In 2016, we increased our focus on gender diversity and the benefits that it brings to business by relaunching the Women in Management under the new banner of CMI Women.

CMI Women is a network within the CMI.

About CMI

The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) is the only chartered professional body for management and leaderships, dedicated to improving managers' skills and growing the number of qualified managers.

Our professional management qualifications span GCSE to PhD equivalents, including the unique Chartered Manager award, which increases earning potential and improves workplace performance. We have been registered as an apprentice assessment organisation by the Skills Funding Agency.

CMI has led the way in developing a suite of trailblazing management apprenticeships with a 40-strong group of employers. These start from Level 3 (team leader) and Level 5 (operations manager) through to Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship. The Senior Leader Master's Degree Apprenticeship gives employers the option to upskill up to executive and C-suite level. CMI is a Skills Funding Agency-registered apprentice assessment organisation.

We provide employers and individual managers with access to the latest management thinking and with practical online support that helps them to embrace change, create high-performing teams and keep ahead of the curve.

With a member community of more than 157,000 managers and leaders, we promote high standards of ethical practice through our Professional Code of Conduct, and help managers to build their expertise through online networks, regional events and mentoring opportunities.
