Management apprentices will be an asset to HS2

Daisy Hooper, Head of Policy at the Chartered Management Institute, responding to the Government’s decision to proceed with HS2 said:

The green light has been given to HS2 which, if delivered well, will revolutionise the way travel takes place across the country. To ensure the project is managed effectively we'd like to see the Government deliver on its manifesto commitment to ensure a “significant number of new UK apprentices” work on all new infrastructure projects.

Management apprentices are an asset to projects like this. Through learning the best management practice and applying it in their jobs from day one, they help to innovate by challenging accepted ways of doing things. It's clear from what the PM said yesterday that big infrastructure projects need skilled managers to run the teams and operations to ensure the UK economy remains successful and competitive.
