Policy Paper:

Management Apprenticeships Boost Productivity

Tuesday 03 March 2020

Productivity has flatlined in the UK since the financial crisis. To ensure the UK’s economic prosperity we need to address the productivity gap relative to other G7 countries, and between regions in the UK.

Countless studies have demonstrated the link between management practices and productivity. As a country we need to invest in more and higher quality leadership and management training and also for this take-up of training to increase. Anyone who has worked for a bad manager can attest to this fact - it is demotivating and frustrating and leads to employees doing the bare minimum to get by.

Management apprenticeships offer an excellent, flexible and accessible route to upskilling and reskilling including building capacity in firms and regions of the UK to drive business improvements.
