My top five takeaways about CMI’s progress in Asia

This October I took a wonderful, week-long trip to Malaysia and Hong Kong to meet with our volunteers and key partners in the region. I was met with such warm hospitality and genuine enthusiasm for our mission, that there’s no way to promote all of the exciting initiatives and cover all of the “thank yous” that I need to in one blog post.

Instead, I’m going to focus on five key takeaways:

1. The growth of our membership

CMI’s growth in the Asia-Pacific region is a real success story: CMI membership grew 70% from just over 4,000 in 2021, to 6,800 in 2023. This is driven in part by increases in the numbers of students studying a CMI qualification.

What the numbers don’t tell you is that these members are more active and engaged than I’ve seen before.

I was lucky enough to join events run by both the CMI Malaysia and CMI Hong Kong Regional boards. At the former, we overran because of the number (and quality) of questions the audience had for our panel; at the latter, we had the largest audience I’ve ever seen for one of our Hong Kong events. Both demonstrate how keen our members are to engage!
