CMI Wales/Cymru facilitates and supports professional development and networking for CMI members who live and/or work in Wales. The volunteers who form our Board are all members within the nation who believe passionately in the vision, mission and values of CMI and the importance of excellent leadership and management for all individuals and organisations.
Our focus at CMI is on preventing ‘accidental management’, at some time in your career you may have found yourself promoted to manage other people without the necessary experience, technical skills or support. CMI provides professional training and development to make sure we become competent and confident leaders and get the best from our teams and ourselves.
The CMI Wales volunteer Board works closely with the CMI national executive and our fellow Regional Boards, we have also forged strong links with other professional bodies based in Wales, higher and further education institutions, employers and other community partners, all aligned to CMI’s Professional Standard. We are a growing network committed to organising relevant events, sharing best practice and information for the benefit of you, our local members.

Emma has been a member of CMI since 2016 when she gained Chartered Manager status. Educated in Bristol and Manchester Universities she’s currently a Professional Development Expert at Corndel, delivering transformational leadership and management courses to senior business leaders across multiple sectors in the UK. Previously she worked as the Head of the Exploration & Development in an energy consultancy, where her team of geoscientists helped their clients find energy resources globally.
Emma has extensive strategic leadership experience and is passionate about helping people to become the best leader they can be. Emma is a Level 7 accredited Executive coach and uses this style to pose thought provoking questions to those she works with.
Emma joined the board as Communications and Social Mead lead and has now taken up the mantle of Events Lead. She has led thought provoking events on workplace wellbeing, employability, emotional intelligence and leading through change.
With nearly a decade of experience in journalism and strategic communications, Katie is a communications professional with a strong track record of delivering clear, impactful messaging across organisations. Katie currently leads both internal and external communications for the Independent Monitoring Authority (IMA), the public body responsible for safeguarding the rights of EU citizens living in the UK following Brexit.
Prior to this, Katie worked as a journalist at Reach PLC, the UK’s largest commercial news publisher, where she developed a keen eye for storytelling and a deep understanding of audience engagement. Her journalism background continues to inform her approach to communications, enabling her to translate complex issues into accessible and compelling content.
Katie’s core skills include strategic communications planning, media relations, stakeholder engagement, and social media management. Katie is particularly passionate about using digital platforms to connect with diverse audiences and amplify key messages. Katie brings a proactive, collaborative approach to her work and she thrives in fast-paced environments where clear communication is essential.
Claire is a leadership and neurodiversity coach with over twenty years’ experience spanning commercial leadership, organisational transformation and leadership development. She began her career in the consumer insight industry, progressing into senior leadership roles where she led large teams and managed significant commercial portfolios.
Alongside leading operational teams, Claire worked at corporate level on organisational culture and leadership capability, including designing culture change programmes and rolling out inclusive leadership training to more than 1,000 employees.
Claire now runs her own coaching practice, working with leaders and emerging talent across the private and public sectors. She joined the CMI Wales Board in March 2026 as Diversity and Inclusion Lead and is passionate about supporting managers across Wales to build practical, inclusive leadership.
I am a Mechanical Engineering Manager and a serving member of the Royal Navy Submarine Service, with over 20 years of expertise across the military, defence, and nuclear sectors. My career has been defined by leading complex, high-value engineering projects and managing diverse, integrated teams of civilian and military personnel.
Over the last two years, I have focused on troubleshooting complex processes and developing strategy, policy, and governance to drive operational efficiency. As an IEng member of the IMechE with degrees from the University of Portsmouth and Lincoln, and a GCGI in Management and Leadership, I am passionate about the professionalisation of management. This commitment to leadership extends into the community, where I also serve on the board of a Welsh children’s charity, supporting local families.
Ross is Managing Director of Goodson Thomas and Penodi, leading executive search and talent consultancy work that helps organisations across Wales build exceptional, values aligned leadership teams. Over a 20 year career spanning leadership, consultancy, coaching and talent acquisition, he has developed a reputation for quality, strategic insight and delivering effective appointments in complex environments.
He is also a certified Executive Coach, working with professionals and leaders to strengthen clarity, confidence and performance. In addition, Ross serves as a Non Executive Director and Trustee, bringing independent challenge and people focused governance to board roles. He is a Chartered Manager, Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and Fellow of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation.
Will is passionate about taking on the Communications & Social Media Lead role for the CMI Wales Board. Graduated with a Distinction in MA Business and Marketing from Bangor University, Will has consistently demonstrated academic excellence, culminating in his award for Best Postgraduate Student in Marketing, a reflection of his outstanding results across key mapped CMI modules. His work showcased advanced strategic analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities. His progression from a First-Class undergraduate degree from Grwp Llandrillo Menai to a postgraduate degree at Bangor University illustrates a sustained commitment to academic growth. Will has been an active member of the CMI since January 2024, engaging with its resources and networks to enhance his leadership practice. He was a frequent attendee at local and digital events and has made a great effort to engage with regional activities and networking. His recent appointment as Communications & Social Media Lead for the CMI Wales Board is a testament to his commitment to the profession with the Wales CMI community. This voluntary role will allow him to develop strategic communications skills while promoting CMI’s mission to raise the standards of professional leadership.

With expertise in the built environment across developed and emerging economies, Neil’s experience spans infrastructure, industrial and defence projects, high-tech facilities, water solutions, and major programs. A Chartered Engineer (CEng), Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE), Chartered Management Institute Companion (CMgr CCMI), and Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), he holds a BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering from the University of South Wales. Neil serves on multiple boards, is a STEM Ambassador, a Freeman of the City of London, and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Water Conservators. An avid cyclist, he raises funds for cancer charities through his rides.
I am an Engineer by profession with a passion for Sales. I completed my Post Graduate degree from University of Warwick and have been working for a global conglomerate for over 17 years. My work experience spans across a number of industries mainly in the Engineering and Manufacturing sectors. I enjoy reading, listening to music and watching sports in my free time.
