Operations Managers will be responsible for leading and managing their operational function which includes accountability for developing team members, managing projects, planning, and reviewing workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally. Operations Managers are found in small, medium, large, and multinational organisations in private, public and third sectors across all areas of the economy.
The Level 5 Operations Manager Apprenticeship delivers a professional pathway for future development with eligibility for Foundation Chartered Manager (fCMgr) or Chartered Manager (CMgr) status.

The qualification specification, standard and assessment plan for this apprenticeship was updated as of 25th September 2024. The current version (1.4) is Operations Manager, while the previous version (1.2) was Operations or Departmental Manager. The Operations Manager Apprenticeship is an exciting work-based route towards developing key skills in Operational Management. It includes work-based learning, which means that the apprentice is in paid employment for the duration of their apprenticeship and receives on the job training.

To be able to deliver an apprenticeship a provider must be registered on the apprenticeship provider and assessment register (APAR).
All apprenticeships are required to have an end-point assessment that is carried out by an independent body. Apprentices must pass the end-point assessment in order to achieve their apprenticeship and receive their certificate.
The end point assessment for the Operational Manager involves two assessment methods: Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence and a Written project report with presentation and questions.
The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) regulates the quality of apprenticeships. The IfATE’s role is also to advise on setting funding caps, and approve apprenticeship standards and assessment plans.
Yes – apprentices that successfully complete all parts of the Apprenticeship will receive a full apprenticeship certificate. This will be in addition to any qualifications that are taken as part of the apprenticeship.
