A team leader is found in organisations where there is a requirement for first-line management and a need to support teams and senior management.
The broad purpose of the occupation is a team leader role, with operational and project responsibilities. They will have responsibility for managing individuals, a team, or elements of a project. They provide direction, instructions, and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. Team leaders are vital for the smooth functioning of all departments in any organisation and are often responsible for ensuring the function is correctly administered and maintained in line with legislation of the organisation’s procedures.
Team Leaders are found in small, medium, large, and multinational organisations in private, public and third sectors across all areas of the economy.

The qualification specification, standard and assessment plan for this apprenticeship was updated as of 25th September 2024. The current version (1.4) is Team Leader, while the previous version (1.2) was Team Leader or Supervisor. The Team Leader apprenticeship is an exciting work-based route towards developing key skills in Leading and Managing people. It includes work-based learning, which means that the apprentice is in paid employment for the duration of their apprenticeship and receives on the job training and support.
We are the only professional body able to award Chartered Manager Status. On completion of your apprenticeship, you will be eligible to apply for for Foundation Chartered Manager, which puts you on a development pathway to full Chartered Manager status

To be able to deliver an apprenticeship a provider must be registered on the Education and Skills Funding Agency’s Register of Apprentice Training Providers (RoATP).

All apprenticeships are required to have an end-point assessment that is carried out by an independent body. Apprentices must pass the end-point assessment in order to achieve their apprenticeship and receive their certificate.
The end point assessment for the Team Leader apprenticeship involves two assessment methods: Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence and a Presentation on a set subject with questions.
The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) regulates the quality of apprenticeships. The IfATE’s role is also to advise on setting funding caps, and approve apprenticeship standards and assessment plans.
Yes – apprentices that successfully complete all parts of the Apprenticeship will receive a full apprenticeship certificate. This will be in addition to any qualifications that are taken as part of the apprenticeship.
