Chartered Manager of the Year

This award celebrates Chartered Managers at the top of their game. Winning entries must be able to demonstrate how they utilise management and leadership skills, knowledge and behaviours to make a positive difference in their workplace, and for their teams.

We are looking for role models for exceptional management, so a great place to start your entry journey is by reviewing the CMI Professional Standard for Management and mapping your experience and skillset.

The nominee must be a member of CMI and hold Chartered Status (CMgr).

Yes, the competition is open to all Chartered Managers (CMgr) - UK and overseas.

You will nominate a Chartered Manager (CMgr) and write a short paragraph on your reason for nomination using this form.

If eligible for the competition, the nominee is then contacted and asked to complete the submission form.

To be eligible to participate in the award you must be a current member of one of the following CMI volunteer communities:

  • UK Regional & Devolved Nation Boards
  • International Regional Boards -Hong Kong; Malaysia; Sri Lanka; Singapore
  • Board of Companions
  • CMI Women Advisory Committee
  • IC Advisory Committee
  • CMI Race Equity Committee
  • ChMC Oversight Board

You will nominate a volunteer and write a short paragraph on your reason for nomination using this form.

Yes, you can nominate as many volunteer members as you like, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria.

Yes you can self nominate but you would require a referee from one of the following CMI communities:

  • UK Regional & Devolved Nation Boards
  • International Regional Boards -Hong Kong; Malaysia; Sri Lanka; Singapore
  • Board of Companions
  • CMI Women Advisory Committee
  • IC Advisory Committee
  • CMI Race Equity Committee
  • ChMC Oversight Board

Training Provider of the Year

The Training Provider of the Year will have:

  • Clearly articulated how their work supports CMI's mission to 'increase the number and standard of professionally qualified managers and leaders'.
  • Shown examples of innovative and outstanding initiatives and activities undertaken or introduced which relate to their partnership with CMI.
  • Provided evidence of the impact they have on the organisation and students.
  • Provided clear evidence of the impact of working partnership with CMI on student employability, learning experience and enrichment, work/employer impact or professional development.

This award recognises training providers, colleges or employer providers for outstanding positive impact on learner experience, professional development and personal performance as a result of their partnership with CMI.

All evidence should show this and could be a range of things including:

  • Specific examples of activities undertaken with CMI
  • Learner progression
  • Testimonials - individual/employer
  • Case Studies - individual/employer
  • Metrics (eg achievement rates, completions, grades achieved, numbers enrolled)
  • Use of CMI resources
  • Design and delivery of new programmes
  • Social impact

The nomination should cover innovative and outstanding initiatives and activities within the last 12-18 months, to ensure it is showcasing current and relevant activities and achievements.

If you have submitted a nomination in previous years you might want to consider focusing on something different to your last submission.

HE Partner of the Year

The HE Partner of the Year will have:

  • How their work supports CMI's mission to 'increase the number and standard of professionally qualified managers and leaders.'
  • Examples and evidence as to how their partnership with CMI has supported the achievement of their institutions ambitions and goals.
  • Examples from the last 12-18 months of innovative and outstanding initiatives and activities introduced or undertaken which relate to your partnership with CMI.
  • Clear evidence of the impact of working in partnership with CMI on student employability, learning experience and enrichment, impact and professional development.

No, you do not have to be a member of CMI, however your organisation will need to have been working with CMI within the last 12 months, and be able to evidence that relationship.

This award recognises Higher Education providers who have demonstrated the outstanding positive impact that their partnership with CMI has had in terms of student employability, enriched experience, impact and professional development.

All evidence should show this and could be a range of things including:

  • Specific examples of activities undertaken with CMI
  • Student destination data/progression/satisfaction
  • Testimonials - individual/employer
  • Case Studies - individual/employer
  • Metrics (eg achievement rates, completions, grades achieved, numbers enrolled)
  • Use of CMI resources
  • Social impact

Apprentice of the Year

The winner will have demonstrated outstanding positive impact by successfully applying their learning in the workplace.

In particular they will have:

  • Demonstrated a high level of progression on their programme and a consistent display of commitment to their own personal and professional development.
  • Demonstrated management or leadership capabilities that are already making a positive impact on their employer, peers or provider.
  • Demonstrated how their learning on their apprenticeship has been directly applied to their workplace and the impact it has had.
  • Active participation with CMI and its wider membership community.

No, you are not able to self nominate, you must be nominated by your tutor/training provider.

No, you do not have to have their permission, but we would recommend that you make them aware of your nomination so that they are prepared when CMI contacts them for further information and supporting statements.

Yes, although you can only nominate one person per cohort.

We would encourage you to submit a supporting statement but this isn't compulsory. Your entry will still be judged on the original nomination from your tutor/training provider.

No, but they will need to have undertaken enough of their apprenticeship to demonstrate what they have achieved and the impact that they have had on themselves and in the workplace.

None are specified, but a strong nomination would draw out outstanding personal, professional or academic performance, and/or overcoming obstacles to achievement.

Student of the Year

The winner will have demonstrated outstanding positive impact by effective application of the theory they've learned throughout their course.

In particular they will have:

  • Demonstrated a high level of progression on their programme and a consistent display of commitment to their own personal and professional development.
  • Demonstrated management or leadership capabilities that are already making a positive impact on their employer, peers or provider.
  • Demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.
  • Applied practical course content within employment or extra-curricular activities.
  • Active participation with CMI and its wider membership community.

No, you are not able to self nominate, you must be nominated by your tutor/training provider.
