What does being a Chartered Manager mean to you?
As an accidental manager in a sense, ending up as a manager due to circumstance, I feel the chartered manager qualification has given some form of professionalism to my management and leadership.
What inspired you to become a Chartered Manager?
Unfortunately my mum fell ill, so my dad needed to take a step out of the business to look after her. The company was then left without a managing director so I stepped in to take over. The CMI Level 5 came as a suggestion from a training partner and I thought at that time why not? I'd gotten this opportunity and I needed to progress myself and be a good manager for the business at the time.
How has becoming a Chartered Manager helped you tackle challenges in the workplace?
Some of the greatest challenges I've come across as a manager have been my age and the fact that I am a female. Coming into a very male driven industry, it was quite difficult to stand up with confidence. Becoming Chartered has driven me to find that confidence and to make good decisions for the business moving forward.
Would you recommend becoming a Chartered Manager?
If anyone was to think of becoming a chartered manager I'd absolutely say go for it. It's never too late to learn new skills for one, it's also great to be able to put your own work experience against the standards. It builds confidence, professionalism and it really gets the productivity that you and your company are after.

The new approaches to management I learnt through achieving Chartered status and then brought to my day to day role were reflected in increased remuneration from my company. Getting Chartered has been one of my career highlights.
